What are you willing to give?

In my Bible reading today in Genesis 42 & 43 there is the account of the sons of Israel coming back from Egypt and giving their father Jacob (Israel) the report from their encounter with Joseph. (Although they did not know it was Joseph) Joseph had required them to go leave Simeon and go home and get their younger brother Benjamin. When Jacob heard this he became very upset and at first was unwilling to allow them to take Benjamin. Benjamin was the youngest of the son's of Isael.

Reuben offered his two son in place of Benjamin if something happened to Benjamin, this is in 42: 37 So we see Reuben willing to give his two sons in place of Benjamin. If you think about this you think, wow he was willing to give alot. But then later the famine continued so it was absolutly necessary for them to go back to Egypt.

Judah spoke up and said he would be responsible and if they did not come back with Benjamin Jacob could blame him for the rest of his life. Who was willing to give the greatest sacrifice? Reuben or Judah. I think Judah was willing to give the greatest sacrifice. He was willing to take total responsibility for Benjamin upon himself. Isn't that what Jesus did for us. The penalty for our sin was placed upon him. He did not send someone else to pay the price He paid the price. Romans 3:23 The reward for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Who's example will you follow, Reuben's or Judah's.
